Fixing User Folder Name: A WIN10 Adventure

Once upon a time, there was a tech-savvy individual who had recently started using WIN10 and stumbled upon a surprising issue – the folder name in the user directory was misspelled! Determined to fix this, our protagonist embarked on a quest to rename the folder.

Firstly, they realized that the folder was created based on their user account name, which might have been misspelled. They devised a clever plan to not only change the username but also simultaneously modify the corresponding folder name.

Our protagonist decided to rename account A to B. To accomplish this task, they logged into the system using another administrator account, C.

They navigated to the Control Panel and entered the realm of user accounts, renaming account A to B.

Next, they opened C:\Users or the “Users” folder and confidently renamed folder A to B.

Not stopping there, they clicked on Start, selected Run, typed regedit, and clicked OK.

In the Registry Editor, they ventured to the following path:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList

Under the ProfileList folder, they individually clicked on folders with longer strings as names, inspected the content of the ProfileImagePath key on the right-hand side, and located the key with the path C:\Users\A.

Bravely, they double-clicked the ProfileImagePath key, modifying its content to: C:\Users\B.

As a result, our protagonist logged out of the account, logged back into B, and marvelously discovered that the user configuration profile had magically transformed into B. The adventure of renaming the folder concluded successfully, leaving our hero with a sense of accomplishment for overcoming what initially seemed like a challenging problem.
